Just finished "Talking to Girls About Duran Duran: One Young Man's Quest for True Love and a Cooler Haircut" by Rolling Stone columnist Rob Sheffield. Nice little mini-memoir about growing up in Boston in the 1980s with an eye to how the music of the '80s (NW and other genres) provided the soundtrack for those days.

Fairly funny in parts, and surprisingly open (how many credible rock journalists would admit to being a Haysi Fantayzee fan!) Also surprising the number of insights about NW music that Outpost vets have observed long ago (see: Gino Vannelli's Black Cars).

Nice nostalgic read which I recommend.

I just finished it as well, and I'd give it the same recommendation. I agreed that what might be called "guilty pleasures" he expresses somewhat shamelessly (like "Shiny Shiny") -- and I've noticed that I feel significantly less "guilty" about those as time goes by, too. I just like what I like.

It was a fun book to read, and written as a series of short essays more than one cohesive narrative. Just so you know.

Received this from Santa. A very fun read.
