There's a great new CD out now called "Farad: The Electric Voice" which compiles some true landmark synth music from Bruce Haack. Haack started out making synthpop in 1963 (for kids) and never looked back. Here's a cut from 1970:

Great stuff! (although I wish "Wooden Bread" was on it. I used to play that around Halloween on my radio show).

Thanks for the post! Pretty interesting stuff for 1970. It doesn't have the hooks of late 70s new wave, but the basis sound is certainly there. I'm thinking this must be one of the earliest examples of heavy vocoder treatment for vocals?

According to Wiki (which is always suspect) Bruce Haack was the first person to ever use a vocoder for musical purposes. It seems logical though. I can't recall anyone in the 60's using it before him. I know Walter/Wendy Carlos used it on the soundtrack for "A Clockwork Orange" but that was some years later.
