Much as I'd like to continue posting about Roxette, it's time to get back to reality. Here's a recent performance from punk legends Social Distortion who have a new album and are on tour:

Have always liked Social D. Their 1990 self titled cd is a classic. The Mike Ness solo cd "Cheating at Solitaire" is worth a listen too.

this is supposed to be better than Roxette?
no distinct melody, bad vocals, dry boring sound, you hear it and forget it in a second...what is better here? Maybe I'm just not a fan of punk rock, but even punk rock can be more engaging than this... I guess to each his own.... [:)]

All depends on your pedigree, I guess. If you were raised thinking that bland pop music is the shit then you probably won't appreciate this.[:)]

Really, InvisibleMan ... this village doesn't need a new idiot(Toyah's pretty firmly entrenched at the moment)so you can quit auditioning.

eta: Thanks, djcraig ... between this album, the new Gang Of Four, the new Wire and the Pagan Babies anthology, this year's starting off on the right foot.

I was just thinking the same thing: InvisibleMan is to Roxette what Toyah is to Toyah.

I love Mommy's Little Monster, and have done so since 1983. Prison Bound is good. The first 2 Epic records were good for the time. However, I think Mike Ness crawled up his own ass sometime in the mid-90s. I see no reason to keep calling it Social distortion when he is the only original member AND he's released solo stuff.

But Mommy's Little Monster still gets played a few times a year at the Stench household.

Funny how drug addiction, death, life and the passing of 33 years will cause a band's line up to change. Social D was pretty much from the start a revolving door ensemble. It's not like Ness suddenly fired all his band mates one day and replaced them with session players.

Current line up:

Mike Ness – vocals, guitar (1978–present)
Jonny "2 Bags" Wickersham – guitar (2004–present) (Cadillac Tramps)
Brent Harding – bass (2004–present) (Deke Dickerson And The Ecco-Fonics)
David Hidalgo, Jr. – drums, percussion (2010–present) (Suicidal Tendencies. He is the son of David Hidalgo, guitarist and singer of Los Lobos.)

A pretty formidable team, IMO.

Now if we could just get former members Dennis Danell and Brent Liles to stop being dead, they could rejoin the band.

I was also raised to appreciate pop artists who write and produce their own music...

performance on national talk show like Conan... talk about mass media trying to shove this band down our throats... but even with this nice of a promo I doubt this lackluster tune will gain much popularity...but that's ok we can always write that lack of mass appeal on the term "alternative", that's much easier than admitting that the tune simply sucks [:D]

Watched clip and, mindless tool that I obviously am, bought album, and have been enjoying it ever since.

I couldn't care less how popular these songs may ultimately be. (For what it's worth, "Machine Gun Blues" has been getting airplay on at least on one station locally here in NY.) I like roots rock-influenced punk, and so I've always liked Social D. "Alternative?" I thought that phrase died with the '90s.

It's a shame Ness seems to be only touring in California right now.
