Ok, I haven't followed Rick's career since...Jessie's Girl hit #1 in 1981...

...but has anyone seen his portrayal of himself in Season 3 of Californication? He plays a sex addicted, drug addicted, miserable bastard of a Rick Springfield trying to make a come back. It creates some pretty funny moments in the show, but really, is this what you want your fans to think of you?

Maybe it worked for Scott Baio?

Funny, I thought this very thing. I wondered if he was ok with it because that's how he really is or he was just acting and shedding himself in such a negative light.

I didn't actually know Rick was doing this right now. But think about it. Self-deprecating humor has proven to be a real winner for celebs who aren't so much in the limelight anymore, so why not? Personally, I think most of the time when people appear as 'themselves' in scripted movies and TVs, they aren't usually behaving at all the way the real person would. In fact, one smart person is Neil Patrick Harris, who requested when he appeared in the Harold and Kumar movies to be credited as "Neil Patrick Harris...Neil Patrick Harris" to signify that he was still playing a character and NOT himself.

LOS ANGELES -- Rick Springfield has been released from jail after being arrested by sheriff's deputies Sunday night on suspicion of drunken driving.

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department says in a news release the rocker was stopped around 8 p.m. after a deputy spotted him speeding in his 1963 Corvette on Pacific Coast Highway.

The department states a test showed Springfield's blood-alcohol content was .10 percent, which is over the .08 limit in which a percent is presumed to be drunk.
