I haven't seen anyone mention this but I'm sure it's bound to piss some people off. I picked up the new DD album at Best Buy today. It was a bargain price of $11.99 for the CD+DVD edition. But the unexpected bonus is on a little sticker on the front that states:

Best Buy Exclusive Deluxe, includes exclusive tracks 'Early Summer Nerves' and 'Too Close To The Sun'.

So the Best Buy edition contains 17 tracks total. Though neither of these exclusive tracks are really that good, and I don't sense Ronson was involved in either. At least that's how it sounds to me. It also comes in a slipcase that lists the 17 tracks, though when removed from the slipcase, the packaging lists the standard 15 tracks.

And without a full and extensive listen, I can tell you that this is an amazing album. It is classic Duran most of the way. Mark Ronson has helped them recapture much of their early magic. I was the biggest Duran fan in the 80's, but have long since given up on anything beyond Ragged Tiger. This is a great addition, but I can tell by interviews that the guys are getting pissed about the constant comparisons to days of old. The fact is, it is retro! But in the best possible way. It sounds like the original Duran sound, which they lost a long time ago. I fully expect Duran to go back to their blandness for the next album if there's no Mark Ronson present. I think he is essential for them staying on a proper course.

The standout GARBAGE track on the album is the dreadful 'Safe'. It's all that dance/funk crap that ruined the band to begin with, and it's very out of place here. Of course, the band are highly praising of this track. Blechhhhh.....

I find myself partial to the upbeat tracks: Being Followed, Girl Panic!, Other People's Lives, Too Bad You're So Beautiful, Runway Runaway, Networker Nation. But I'm also really enjoying The Man Who Stole A Leopard, and I'm ok with the title track as well.

The DVD contains very short segments regarding the recording of the album and the video shoot. But the most interesting thing is 12 chapters of the band briefly talking about 12 of the tracks in detail. All totalled, the DVD runs less than an hour.

All in all, highly recommeded!

I bought the two UK editions: The Regular(14 tracks)and Deluxe version (16 tracks) but no DVD.

I live in Europe and Best Buy is in America. So, they don´t send to europe. I still need those 2 extras tracks and the DVD.

DD and Mark did an excellent album, in my opinion!
I´m very glad with AYNIN album.

I recommend.

Are the folks @ CD WOW scam artists or something? I pre ordered the new DD cd......I went there to check the status of the order, just to see if it had been sent out yet? it says "Backorder" under status. Now, my question is...how is it possible, that a cd that hasnt even been released yet(well, at least not til today), could be on "backorder"? I mean, the cd was just released today...how is that possible?

CD Wow probably just haven't received it yet. They've seemed to have gone downhill in the past few years.

Agreed.[:)] Ronson really helped inject a cool, energetic vibe that's DD's classic sound; that last [i]RCM[/i] was a travesty that unfortunately sounded dated the moment it left Timbaland's hands. This new CD is all signature DD (minus guitar I guess).

It's their most solid album since Duran Duran and Rio. Mick Ronson has done a great job.
