Nice to have the band behind "Nova Heart," "Arias & Symphonies" and "Romantic Traffic" among us again. [i]Static In Transmission[/i] is the first new Spoons album since 1988, and it's released today.

Available from the HMV and Sunrise chains, and the band website claims international iTunes availability as well.

Please confirm when you get it if it's a silver pressed cd or a cd-r. I am still bummed out by the cd single being a cd-r.

Can't speak to the single, but the CD I bought Thursday is the real deal.

Saturday, April 16, 2 p.m., Spoons are playing a freebie at Sunrise Records in downtown Toronto, as part of Record Store Day.

For those familiar with the geography, it's the Sunrise outlet at 336 Yonge St., across from Ryerson University and the late, lamented Sam The Record Man flagship location.

I run thespoons.ca website so I'm probably biased but I think the album is absolutely fantastic - WAY WAY better than I ever imagined it would be.

Here is what I wrote a few months ago when I first heard it

Breakin In is a slightly revised mix and a great start to the album
Imperfekt is a fantastic poppy single (assuming you haven't heard it)
Numb sounds trippy, epic and amazing
Star Maps is a funky, rocker with lots of keys and guitar - definite single material
Escape is a Stereolab-esque light, summery pop number sung by Sandy that is as good if not better than any Sandy sung song - really catchy
You Light Up you've probably heard - edgy, techno-ish dark number
B Movie - is one of my favourites on the album - it has a Talk Back era feeling to it - catchy piano number - kind of a mid tempo cousin to Camera Shy in content
End Of Story is a very 80s synth song - keys remind me of Alphaville's first album - great song - sounds like it dropped from 1984
Words Will Smash Walls - for me this is the absolute Gem of the album and at this point my stand alone favourite on an album full of amazing songs - it doesn't sound like any other Spoons song I've heard before - all drum machines and synths but really smooth and a beautiful mood. I can't say enough good things about this song - it will probably go down as one of my favourite Spoons songs of all time.
Closing Credits - is another beautiful song - all piano and soft strumming guitar that turns epic - as good an album closer as Blow Away - kind of like if you took Ciao and turned it into a grand finale.

It really is a fantastic album - the production is amazing - clear and crisp - and the songs both individually and collectively stand up against anything in their catalog. I'm floored by how good it is. It feels like a reawakening if that makes any sense.


Also there are bonus tracks to download from secret content found in the artwork of the album and CD.

I don't know but the $C 0.99 a track is going to cost you $US 1.03. Better buy soon before the $US loses value.

I see both Amazon.ca ($17) and Amazon.com ($23) are listing it. It's in stock at .ca and in pre-order at .com.

CD is fully pressed silver CD. CD artwork is a 6-panel, full artwork design, with a pull-out lyric sheet and full size poster. 2 extra tracks can be downloaded through the website.

Awesome album. I love it but cannot figure out how to download the two extra songs. nything to do with Morse code?

Awesome cd! Welcome back Spoons. Gordon and Sandy both look and sound great. Highly recommended.
