I want to smack the Thompson Twins.

I want to smack the Thompson Twins.

A review, according to the wiki says this:

"1984's most instantly kitsch mass program of monosodium glutamation of the brain".

I agree. Some new wave station is playing too much Thompson Twins for me to now really get sick of them. They just act silly & try to come off as cool. If anyone with a low charisma can tell you, you just come off as looking weird & people avoid you.

This is what goes through my head when I see the band members dance around in the "Lies Lies Lies" video.

I now offically hate that amazon MP3 flash thing on the right hand side that's crippling my browser.

Agreed.

He deserves extra condemnation for the tepid wank that is 'You Take Me Up'.

What? You don't like the whiny vocals, the lame lyrics and the fact that every preppy, BMW driving douche bag thought they were the epitome of alternative cool with the Twin's "King For A Day" blasting out of their Blaupunkt?

Haha the 80's charts were full of people who looked like twats. Howard Jones anyone? It seems the thompson twins take the brunt of the critism. For me they created some decent enough "electro-pop", but i admit to having a lot of nostalgia connected to it, since they were my first music indulgence as a 12 year old and sowed the seeds for my love of synthpop that has lasted to this day.

I would definitely agree that they are cringworthy to watch in any form, but they define an era. Complete over-indulgance and bad dress.

There was an interesting UK docu on electropop in which they seem to readily agree with most of the criticism. This documentary is from a while ago and Tom Bailey has been even more critical of the music since they did this interview.

I'm afraid I have to agree. Thompson Twins weren't the most talented bunch of musicians out there, but they're a lot better than a lot of the bubblegum drivel that gets peddled around here regularly. I can think of so many other bands that deserve to have pot shots taken at them much more.

I've never minded the TT's. When I was a kid it was all Tears for Fears, Thompson Twins, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran, Ultravox, Howard Jones, Yazoo etc etc.

I think the TT's appealed to the slightly younger fans a bit more. I don't blame the slightly older New Wavers here for all but dissmissing them along with other artists of the same era.
