New Wave Supergroup(s) You Never Got into

Are there any major new wave groups with huge followings but for some reason they have never been able to rock your boat? For me it's the Police and U2. I like many of their songs but never enough to buy any of their CDs or go to any of their concerts, always been content with just listening to them on the radio but never get excited over them in any way.

I tried to get into The Police recently, and I've liked a couple of songs but I can't stand most of the singles. In fact, "Every Breath You Take" is on a short list of songs I never need to hear again.

No, but neither are any of the groups listed by everyone else in the thread so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

there are 3 bands that I could not get into in the 80's
Depeche More
The Smiths
The Cure
U2
I think the reason is when I was working at a record store during 84-85, when these groups got huge, everyone was buying all their music and they became hugely popular.
Don't get me wrong, I do like early Depeche and the Cure.
Never been a big fan of the Smiths: never can get into Morrisey's moping and his voice (always thought he sounded like Pee Wee Herman for some reason).
As far as U2, I did not get into the political arena thing with them and always thought they were a little bit on the preachy side.
Big fan of War but it seems every record had to bigger than the last one.

The Cars for me. I dont mind a few of their songs, but have never purchased any albums.

I quite like early U2, but after a while all their songs just sounded the same to me.

Back in the day the groups I never got too excited about were talking heads, u2, and the police (synchronicity? please) ... now I like the early work by all these bands. I also listened to a ton of XTC back in the day until I finally decided they were too clever by half and I just didn't like them. So I stopped listening. But now I kinda like the Go 2 period. So I guess for me the early period is usually best ... for the name brands anyway.
