No surprise any more. People in suits realize they can appropriate once-rebellious music for their own ends, selling things to cretins, and of course they're right.

The Onion gave the whole sad situation a nice treatment-- funny (and sad) because it's true I guess.

The Onion article is dated 2001. A quick search says that Carnival started using the song in 2004.
