Who had good punk/new wave scenes back in the day?

Rainbow Music Hall was a great venue for new wave bands and the old Mercury Cafe was a good punk venue. Wax Trax was the epicenter of the Denver punk scene and still thrives today. Moved to Atlanta in 86' and that scene was pretty dead.
