Devo shill for Pepsi ("Drink It")

I was casually listening to a hockey game on the radio when they went to a break and I heard the familiar strains of "Whip It" but now sung with new lyrics extolling the virtues of Pepsi. At first I thought it was a cover band and Devo had licensed the song to Pepsi but then (I think) Mark came on and announced "We are Devo..and we love Pepsi so much we've changed the words to our song Whip It to make a point.." or some such nonsense. Has anyone heard this commercial yet?

Although they are certainly no strangers to the world of ads, thanks to the Honda Motor scooter TV spot in their first dying days (I think 83-84, the ill fated Dr. Detroit-Shout era), at least back then they were trying to keep something afloat. Plus, Mark's work in that world had some originality.

This - Oh No! A promising comeback happens, and then this. It could have had something unique, but it sounds like a tribute band.

Oh well, at least they made their mark, but this is one sad note possibly on the level as Devo 2.0. All to keep them noticed now, I guess, sign of the times and all that.

It's a beautiful world...

Anyone who is surprised by DEVO "selling out" really hasn't understood their message at all.

I think maybe they did this with a Subway commercial a couple years back, but I might be mistaken. Oh, well. At least that means they haven't given up.

Meow!!
