'Drive' by The Cars - Q re lyrics

Hi
Ok, this is bugging the fuckery out of me. I dunno if my ears are defective or what, but:

In the classic 80's Cars hit "Drive", when you look at printed lyrics from the net the 3rd verse appears as:

Who's gonna hold you down,
When you shake?
Who's gonna come around,
When you break?

However, to my ears it sounds like

Who's gonna hold you down,
When you "woooshk"
Who's gonna come around,
When you break?

So, a few queries:

a) Is it 'Shake' or some other word?
b) if 'shake' - why the hell does it not sound like the word shake?
c) if not 'shake', WTF is it?? - I assume it isn't "woooshk", whatever a woooshk is.

I've always wondered what this lyric was, for years and years and years - It was only yesterday that I actually looked up the lyrics to clarify what it was. I've listened to the song over and over again since then and I still can't figure out how 'shake' comes out of what is heard on the song...

Can anyone help?!

Ben holds the "you" for four beats (fourth beat would be silent), then says "shake" in a quick blurt on the fifth beat.

Hmm, did someone delete my post?

I had written that I always thought it was "shake" as well. Just offering a second opinion :).

Thanks Obs.

Maybe I need an ultra good quality verison of the song and listen to it with my sennheisers or something and really try and get my ears tuned to how the lyric is sung.

until then, it will probably continue to sound like "when youoooowooooooshk" to me, even though I know it's definitely 'Shake' ;-)

I totally forgot that the vinyl came with printed lyrics, so officially, it is "shake." I guess that's why I always thought it was shake.

Pretty good reasoning In my book Obs ;-)

I know it must be shake.. it just doesn't sound like shake. I'd rather it was "woooshk" because I think I invented this word, and it would be great to hear / see it used.
