Where Did You Get Your Radio Kicks In The 80s?

I've been very interested in reading the posts of people who had access to alternative commercial stations like KJET, KROQ, and WDRE/WLIR.

Did you have such a sstation? Did you listen to college radio? I was a college radio DJ at WWSP in Stevens Point, WI and there were no commercial alternative stattions. Were you a college radio DJ? What artists almost always dominated your playlists?

Here were some of mine:

Clash, Plimsouls, Jam, X, Gang of Four, Echo and the Bunnymen, Undertones, Ramones, Cramps, and Fleshtones.

I'm starting up a new 80s college radio themed show on a community radio station and am curious about the radio scene from that era.

grew up in OC in SoCal
listened mainly to KROQ and to KNAC before it became a heavy metal station. KNAC was a alternative to KROQ and played more non commercial music. 91X when I was in the San Diego area

I grew up on Long Island, so it was WLIR/WDRE for me.

I was music director at my college radio station, WSKB at Westfield State College in MA. Early 80's.

My Friday night show, 'disturbing the peace', was dominated by Elvis Costello, the Clash, Ultravox, XTC, Echo & the Bunnymen, Gang of Four, Joe Jackson, the Jam, and basically the usual suspects from that era.

We had a huge battle with student senate and the student body in general to get this music played. Good times. [;)]

Wow! Myserio I played all those and more just a couple of years later. I as doing college radio when the whole "paisley underground" was in effect.
