What's the strangest single you have come across in New Wave? I don't believe this a difficult question because IMO the genre has produced quite a few.

My vote goes to "Warm leatherette" by The Normal

This song finally grew on me. The video was even more strange.

The most bizarre new wave singles I remember are "Janitor" by the Suburban Lawns" and "Teenage Enema Nurses"(anyone remember this one?).

Baby Judy by the Hawaiian Pups. The high-pitched middle-eastern ya-ya's, the deep, ominous voice quoting "Dick and Jane"... strange stuff.

i'm not sure if it's new wave but i remember one called "Shiny, Shiny" by, I think Hazy Fantazi. My friend had a dance that she would do to it. I never knew what they were talking about. I need to hear it now [8D]

It's got to be "Homecoming Queen's Gotta Gun" by Julie Brown

This song was ok in the 80's but it's kind of scary to listen to now with all the stuff that has happened in high schools in the last few years.

While really a Hardcore Punk song and not truely "New Wave", this is what immediately came into my mind. Not only a bizarre song but a truely bizarre sleeve. It's Ism's cover of the Partidge Family's "I Think I Love You". I am proud to say it's part of

Joy Division- Love Will Tear Us Apart

There were 2 different versions of the song (one on each side), and both sides had different playing speeds (33 and 45 RPM).

O Superman by Laurie Anderson. Oddly enough, it was a major hit in the UK. I think it hit #2.
