HUB USERS: please read, I have some bad news.

As all of you hub users know, the hub went offline a couple of days ago. I talked to Dan (the guy who hosts it) the day afterword to get some bad news. Apparently some of his hard drive had gotten erased, along with all of The Wave's hosting software.

I do have a copy of the software, I've been trying to run it for a couple days now, in fact. For some reason, I can't seem to get the hub running. I've talked to Dan a little more, and here's the bottom line. Because Dan is doing some video editing on his computer, and because he's lost the hub hosting software, he will not be able to resume hosting the hub. I don't know if this is indefinite, I would assume so, sadly.

Over the next couple of days I'm going to try talking to more friends about getting the hub (or possibly a new hub) online ASAP. Use this topic to voice any concers or questions. Remember, I'm just as bummed out (maybe moreso than) all of you! I'll keep you all posted.

Thanks for doing all this. I'm not yet in the Hub, but I appreciate all the work you and Dan have done/are doing. [:D]

What would be involved in hosting the hub? Perhaps we can rotate, I have a computer sitting around not doing anything since we moved into our new home, I am running SETI for my Team. What about bandwidth, the reason I ask is I hit Newsgroups heavily and h

I unfortunately am bandwith challenged and can offer no assistance for hosting. I would reccomend someone keep the softaware necessary to host the HUB backed up on several computers for exactly this type of calamity. I Just hope someone out there will

Wow, thanks for all the gracious offers! The hub needs no server space or anything to be hosted, just a single computer. I'd say at LEAST a P3 2ghz with 256RAM, which is nothing now-a-days. Any computer made within the last year would be more than suff

I looked into this when I was messing around with it earlier and yes, there is something missing as no one else was able to get the thing to work.
It CAN work on a PC but it's still better off on a dedicated server if you have space to spare like it do.

Actually, there are a few different file sharing programs out there that will serve a small number of users (less than a few hundred). I looked into this a few months ago.

While I do hope in some fashion our hub can return, or a new one be started up, IN THE INTERIM, we can still all get on another hub and see each other and still download as always. I also use a hub, via DC++, you can still go into that program everyone, a

Thank You Gruch for the information you gave us. I myself will join you on the new hub BUT:

I want to add that our goal should be to preserve the 80's new wave theme in whatever new HUB that Nate and Dan create and that while I cannot with my setup ho

Agree, like the 80s theme (at least the main thrust of the music anyway) and will certainly continue to support the hub's success, and hope for it's return.
