New Wave Outpost Forum

I was thinking about a few bands that were New Wave, but could also be considered Deathrock or darker than the typical "New Wave" sound. They didn't really fit into either category. The three that I am coming up with are: The Psychedelic Furs, Modern English (earlier stuff) and Echo and the Bunnymen. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone could think of any other bands that sounded similar.

I noticed the Dark synth thread, but this is sort of different. I'm not really referring to the synth type stuff, but the guitar infused new wave that took on a gothy type feel.

Classix Nouveaux comes to mind right away. Think of a cross between The Sisters Of Mercy and Ure-era Ultravox. Then again, they were accused of being New Romantics too.

The band CHROME comes to mind..You gotta hear the track "Firebomb".
Very dark especially the sound of the vocals.

OK I may be way off here but I would have to say Ministry. I thought that they were pretty dark being only 13 years old when I was first introduced to them. I was use to hearing Duran Duran, Madness, Flock of Seagulls, etc who were not considered "dark"

Cabaret Voltaire's "Red Mecca" comes to mind and Dead Can Dances 1'st is pretty bleak sounding.

I don't know if they would fit the bill as a whole. They are definitely a New Wave band, but there is one song I remember from a movie that started out really meloncholy, but got faster as it went along. I thin

ooo, the Smithereens! There's one! I used to have one of their albums, but I don't know what happened to it. I totally forgot about them! I'm gonna go look them up on soul seek and bear share and see if I can find any of their files.

The movie "Smithereens" featured the Feelies in most of the background music throughtout the movie. The album "It's Only Life" has some of the music from the movie. Richard Hell is also in the movie. The Feelies are also in the movie "Something Wild" p

The title didn't sound familiar to me at all, but I looked it up and yes, that's the movie! Wow! I haven't seen that in ages! What a flashback! D I want to buy that movie as soon as possible.
