Just picked up a compilation with them on it. Can anyone tell me anything about them? Catchy novelty-type tune ("Baby Judy")...surprised it wasn't a more well-known track.

Actually, "Baby Judy" was a club hit in certain regions of the U.S. and Canada, but for the most part they were a true obscurity. A local station where I grew up in the Denver, Colorado played their other standout song "Young Boys" on occasion.

More to the point, The Hawaiian Pups were a trio out of NY who only released a 6-song EP in 1983 called [b]Split Second Precision[/b]. I briefly corresponded with members John Klett and Tara Shanahan several years ago. I recall John Klett mentioning how he had some master tapes buried in his backyard! He's an audio engineer, if I recall correctly. Tara said that their name was inspired by her then dog Kitty, who was adorned with a lei at a party one time.

I would love it if MikeP made Young Boys a song of the week. I've never heard the entire song, just the snippet from Sampling the Rarities and it sounds great. I have Baby Judy from Hardest Hits Volume 3 and have loved it for years since hearing it on Salt Lake City's wonderful alternative station KJQ radio(now defunct). Please MikeP, make Young Boys a song of the week...

Their sole release, the 'Split Second Precision' EP, is great. Took me years to find the actual record but I did manage to download all four tunes during the peak days of Napster. The moody, atmospheric "Trash" and the record's blasting opener, "Infinite Roads" also make it well worth the effort of searching.

The Pups rule, plain and simple.

I discovered them when I bought Hardest Hits 3, and alas discovered the Baby Judy track. Fun to play loud on the highway.

Glad there is a website about them.Picked up their Ep,knowing nothing about it,before a long time,just looking at the amazing cover.This only release,makes things more magic and charming about them...

FYI: I am selling an original Telegenics volume (4A) on eBay right now that includes the music video for "Young Boys" I know the band was looking for a master copy of that video.
