Was Men at work, The Cars, Police, and Sheena Easton considered "new wave"?

Sheena definatley no. Men at Work, yes no maybe i don't know. Early on though, The Cars and Police were definately considered new wave. I think the changeover to them being considered more mainstream came around '81 to '82 when new wave was being populari

i would say yes to men at work because i heard them on a new wave station 6 months before top 40 played them...even american bandstand was a few months later when they had "who can it be now" on rate-a-record

I would also say Yes to Men At Work...I know, I know, they've been derided here in the past, but what else can their sound be ? Now, they never had the synth thing going on, nor the power pop thing, but they definately had this quirky edge to them that wa

I'd pretty much agree with everyone else. Men At Work, The Cars and The Police: yes. Sheena Easton: no. Classifying music into genres is very pointless though, listen to whatever pleases you.

Men At Work - Definitley, yes. I know they are sort of viewed by some as a novelty band, but I always considered them New Wave.
