Big fan here of bizarre instances where an established '70s artist tried to flirt with new-wave sounds...like Carly Simon with "Them." They couldn't all pull it off as well as Robert Palmer. Any more obscure instances that I'm missing?

He went from raw funk of the "Controvery" album right into new wave with his "1999" album. The two big hits from the album - "1999" and "Little Red Corvette" - are not new wave, but just about every other song on the album can be considered new wave. I remember WLIR used to play the cuts "Delirious" and "All The Critics Love You In New York" because they fit in nicely with their new wave programming.

not sure if Obscure enough or completely on topic, but Angetha and Anni-Frid from ABBA both tried solo careers after ABBA with very different directions / seemed like they tried to slot in to the new wave scene... but completely fucked it. Which was always going to happen really :-)

Neil Young with his album Trans, which has Vocoder on almost every song. And there is this song called Computer Age, which has a strong Kraftwerk influence.

Frida maybe, I think Agnetha's was more into AOR/Pop category..I think Bryan Ferry even wrote a song for Frida…
I think both released solid material, I likeSomething's Going On..

One can also mention Donna Summer and Pointer Sisters here…
