It's surprising to me that we rarely touch on this style anywhere on this site. It was very influential on the early British punk scene (note the use of it in Don Lett's "The Punk Rock Movie"). Not so much dub, but every early new-wave band had a go at a 'reggae' styles song on one of their lps...

I've never really fell under the spell of mainstream reggae artists like Bob Marley, but always liked the 'underground' dub stuff.

Some of my favorites include:
Linton Kwesi Johnson (particularly 'Forces of Victory')
The Revolutionaries
Prince Fari
Aswad's "A new chapter of dub" is swell
URoy
King Tubby
Lee Scratch Perry (I know these last two are kind of a 'given')

I'll admit that sometimes a little dub goes a long way, and I might not want to hear it ALL DAY LONG every day, but it is a nice genre/diversion to get into. Anyone else?

YEAH! I love this stuff. heavy dubby reggae is my favourite. You're right in saying that a little goes a long way--you can't listen to it all day--but nevertheless, I like it. My faves:

Dub Syndicate
Black Uhuru (kind of dubby)

Dub Syndicate is great. I only recently got turned on to them when someone slipped me a mix tape with "Night Train" on it. Luckily for me a few months later On-U released "Murder Tone" a collection of rare Dub Syndicate sides including "Night Train".

I have been slowly but shurely picking up the Soul Jazz catalog.


But my favorite LP is Althea and Donna's Uptown Top Ranking.
