In the late eighties, I started going to clubs in Laguna Beach, Inland Empire, and sometimes LA. My favorite club was Club Postnuclear in Laguna Beach. The location was in a building next to the famous Sawdust Festival. Does anyone remember going there? It was very industrial looking inside and played mostly new wave and alternative music. In LA, I remember the Scream and some other cool clubs. In Riverside, I went to the Crawlspace, Attitudes, and the 4D Club. Any favorite memories of SoCal clubs?

Yup, went to both. Postnuclear was one of the few clubs that played "club versions" and razormaid mixes of all the cool industrial/electronic stuff of the late '80s early '90s - DJ Aldo Bender was the resident there for a bit. Also booked some great shows (like Nitzer Ebb).

I practically LIVED at Scream from '85-'88. So much so that (and I know I've mentioned this a few times, but, since you brought it up)...

In about '88/'89 Scream morphed into Helter Skelter. Helter's main night was held at the Stardust Ballroom on Sunset (which is now the Hollywood Home Depot!!) The same guys (Mike & Bruce) that created Helter - in the early '90s - opened up Perversion and Velvet which still exists toda - and at their same locations (7070 Hollywood/7969 Santa Monica). They now have 5 clubs: Perv, Dungeon, Clockwork Orange, Blue Mondays and Velvet. They operate under the name "The Evil Club Empire" (www.evilclubempire.com) and yours truly is their webmaster.

Wow, memories!!! Yep, we hung out at Post Nuclear quite a bit. We'de always end up at the wedge with a bunch of people and we would walk out on that jetty and smoke pot. or we'de go to the stacks in huntington/newport and have a fire on the beach. I don't even think you can do that anymore. Scream was cool too. There was a great place in Norwalk call the rainbow, roller rink by day, punk club by night, that was cool too if not a little wild. Saw a lot of fights there. I still claim SoCal even though I'm in NorCal. NorCal bites, big time. [:D] Thanks for reminding me of great times.

LOL! You would drive all the way back to the Wedge to smoke? We would just go to Shaw's Cove, although the scuba divers' lights emerging form the ocean in the middle of th night would kinda freak you out if you're on shrooms. The Bolsa Chica firepits were a staple too.

But the late 80s at the height of Post-Nuclear was a weird time for me. I honestly never went even though I lived right up the Canyon in Laguna Hills. Didn't have many new wavers to hang with and the scene had temporarily lost its steam for me. I was kind of a barfly more than club goer at this time. Anyone recall places like The Blue Beet and Studio Cafe in Balboa, the Goathill Tavern in NB, happy hours at Las Brias in LB and El Torito in Irvine (Taco Tuesdays!), and of course the embarrassing Red Onion meat market in Costa Mesa. Yuck!

When we did get out, it was often to the now-defunct Lhasa Club in LA - BYOB was probably the biggest attraction more so than the shows!

Club Post Nuclear was really cool. I also liked Stigmata for awhile too before it became a college hang out. There was also Club Shelter in Pasadena who would play Microchip League, Cetu Javu, and Peter Schilling.

I remember seeing the plimsouls at Blackies by the beach. It was a great place to be for music in the 80's. Saw tons of great bands. Went on a date with Stacey Q. She was always over at my friends house talking to his mom about how horrible her mom was (you know teenagers) We went out for dinner and I took her to skyline drive in fullerton to try to get her drunk but she was a good girl and we just talked and i took her home. This was of coarse before she became "Stacey Q". Yeah Blir, the Red Onion in Fullerton was totally the yuppie meat market scene, i did meet carl weathers there, my girlfriend got had a picture taken with him. Cool, fun times indeed.

Cool memories, guys! I always wondered whatever happened to everyone from the clubs(especially Postnuclear and Scream), and I don't think there was a thread here at the NWO about SoCal clubs. Ben, that is amazing that you went on a date with Stacy Q! Those were great days for clubs. Its good to hear all the SoCal club memories!

Yeah Ben, I'm pretty impressed with the Stacey Q thing too. Was this also pre-SSQ days?

Wow, a post about Postnuclear.....I practically lived at that club for 3+ years. What memories! I personally went on to create my own clubs, Submission then Dominion (at Club Metro) But nothing could replace those years at PN. If I had any means to get a hold of people that used to go, I would love to have a PN reunion for maybe a weekend. BTW, I would've been the tallest guy you saw there on a regular basis

Anyone remember Long Beach clubs/venues like Fenders and Bogarts and Grand Central Station?

I remember Bogart's! I can't for the life of me remember who I saw there - possibly just locals. But I definately remember backtracking to some pubs in Naples afterwards and wrecklessly driving along PCH back to Newport.

Postnuclear ... I managed that club from 91-93 [:)] Great people there.

What was the club that they filmed the Plimsouls in , in the Valley Girl movie???

Back in the days when I would hang at the beach for a few weeks each summer (my sister went to UCI) I would go to the Golden Bear as well as a few clubs on Beach Blvd in HB quite a bit.

But back when I was clubbing I mostly stayed in the Valley. Anyone remember Whompoppers up in Universal City? And Tennessee Gin & Cotton in Encino? Then there was Lady Janes... lol

I seem to remember going to Florentien Gardens once because Blade would pimp that place on KROQ.

Not 100% certain but I think it was at Club 88 on Pico which later become something else (how's that for a memory) and is now a sushi restaurant.
