Has anyone seen this show? They've been playing some great videos, including ones I've never seen before! Reminds me of the first couple of years of MTV. Very cool... check it out.[8D] 11pm EST.

Here's the description:
This show features the best of alternative from the '70's and 80's. Tune in for alt favorites like The Cure, The Smiths, and Echo and the Bunnymen.

I've seen it and it is a very good show. Its great to be able to sit and enjoy music videos again.

Couldn't agree more! So here's the line-up from tonight:

Godfathers – Birth, School, Work, Death
Morrissey - The Last of the Famous International Playboys
Belouis Some – Some People
Stuff from Porno for Pyros and Live... like a sorbet to cleanse the palate
INXS – I Send a Message
The Damned – Anything
NIN (sorbet)
Lush – De Lux (no, me neither)
Electronic – Getting Away With It
Depeche Mode – Behind the Wheel
Soundgarden (too much sorbet, starting to feel ill)
Material Issue – Diane (cool “power pop” sound… never heard of em tho)
Yazoo – Only You (great way to end the set!)

BTW It airs Sun/Weds/Thurs at 11EST

If you watch the show once a month then you will enjoy it. Otherwise you will see the same videos over and over again. I used to aid in programming the channel (behind the scenes), and begged and begged for a Classic Alternative show. They only bothered once they added 90's videos to rotation, which defeated the whole purpose. It was at a point that you could see more obscure New Wave videos on 'We are the 80's' before the "Alternative" show actually came on the air. In one day I managed to get them to play three great obscurites: Landscape-Einstein a go go, Rupert Hine-Misplaced love, Ignatius Jones-Like a ghost. Those days are over, and you'd be lucky to see any reairings of these videos ever appear on The Alternative.
After watching the gradual, and expected, decline of VH1-C over the last several years I proudly dumped cable back in Dec., since the only reason I kept it was for this now useless channel. Get ready for bad movies and reruns of The Real World.
One of the greatest things that annoyed me about the jerks in charge is that they deemed over 2000 of their videos 'off limits' by claiming they were "Restricted". Unfortunately most of those videos were classic New Wave/Alternative videos that used to air on MTV in regular or medium rotation. I managed to get them to put a couple on the air but they were always a real pain about it, but there were so many others they just refused to touch. Well, as long as they continue overplaying the important stuff like James Taylor and Carly Simon...[xx(]

Material Issue probably more famous for their *other* song with a girl's name in the title..."Valerie Loves Me" I think they're from Minnesota or somewhere in the midwest

Anyway, about that Yazoo video...I saw that too, was wondering, was that computer animation? Those mannequins kinda blew me away, because that video/song couldn't have been done no later than what--'83, '84?

Material Issue probably more famous for their *other* song with a girl's name in the title..."Valerie Loves Me" I think they're from Minnesota or somewhere in the midwest

ughhh bleghhh hurl, LIVE and soundgarden are 2 of my least favorite bands EVER!!! ever!!!! i would honestly rather hear the new kids or kenny rogers than those guys, i couldnt not stand live when they were big i thought they were so godawful.
and as far as the grungs saettle scene, i by far disliked soundgarden more than the rest and i didnt like any of them.
and this bothers me anyway because neither of those bands qualified as what i would consider alternative at there time.

sure the cure and depeche mode werent like unknown bands, but still the only time i seen them was on 120 minutes late at night.

soundgarden and live at there time were on like the TRL type shows.

i get tired of telling people that alternative isnt an actual style of music,crappy buzzing guitar doesnt make you alternative.
when these 2 bands were big poison would have been far more alternative.
and frankly as dorky as poison may have been at there peak they would still have been 5 times better than live or garden to me.

Rubellan is SPOT ON with his assessment of VH1 Classic. That channel is infuriating. They simply refuse to play most of the obscure stuff in favor if rehashed videos that they repeat over and over. I stopped watching a long time ago.

I can also attest to Rubellan's ability to get many videos played. We used to be on the same message board for a long time. I finally gave up however. That channel just blows. Watch sparingly and you won't be disappointed. Watch often and you'll kick the screen in.

'82. The computer animated video you saw was made in '99 in order to promote the Yaz(oo) collection released at that time.

It is a great show. I'm watching it now 11AM-1PM EST.

It is on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, if I recall what the promo said. On each of those days, it's on at 11AM and 11PM.

Material Issue did a great cover of "Turning Japanese" with Liz Phair back in '93.

I suppose if you watching anything constantly you'll start seeing repeats. I watch VH-1 Classics a few times a week and I rarely see repeats.

I'll have to set my VCR for that late night show (I'm 45 now and I'm pooped by 10:00. Yup, I know).
