What song got you listening to New Wave?

What was the first song you heard that made you go "WOW"?

For me it was hearing "Warm Leatherette" by The Normal sometime in late 1979 or early 1980. I first heard it on KROQ and kept listening until it came on again. In the meantime I hear a bunch of good music that completely changed my musical direction for the rest of my life.

How would have my life have been different had I not been listening to the radio and had it tuned to KROQ at that exact moment? Sure I was listening to Devo just before that but I never made the connection between Devo and New Wave. I didn't even know that New Wave really existed.

Almost overnight I realized that Rush, Styx and Journey and all of the rest of the crap in Jr.High was, well... tired old and played out! [xx(]

... and I never looked back! [^]

It would have to be Blondie's "Heart of Glass". Way back in the spring of 1979. After that it would be the Cars "Candy-O"

I would have to say "One Way or Another" by Blondie. And once I got the "Parallel Lines" album, it was the only record on my turntable for 2 weeks. Other honorable mentions (in no particular order):
"Cool for Cats" by Squeeze
"Ca Plan Pour Moi" by Pla

Either "Whip It" by Devo, "Heart of Glass" by Blondie, or "Clean Clean" by the Buggles.

Cars - Best Friends Girl
Police - Walking on the Moon
Blondie - Heart of Glass

It's pretty pedestrian but that's what got me started down this road.
