I don't care much for their early stuff, or their later stuff. However, in the years '85-'87 they cranked out 2 very good albums, and released some killer dance tracks. I also love the image that went along with that period in their career. They were on top of it for a minute. It's very simple really, I like to shake my rump - and Dead Or Alive makes me wanna do it.

So where does the NWO stand on DOA...

What can I say? It had a good beat and you could dance to it. Sometimes music actually becomes popular because it is good: hence "You spin me round" and "Brand new lover."

I like them; if I see an unfamiliar Dead or Alive 12" in the cheapo record bin I usually grab it. An old dorm-mate once complained that every song sounds the same, and I suppose he may have been onto something...they knew what they were good at and stuck

From my personal experience, they were one act that just could not pull off a live performance (at least here in the states) due the the self centered ego-centric posturing of front man diva Pete Burns. [:(!]

I was never into dance music so much. A few DOA songs I like, but not a great fan of the whole genre.

I heard before their Youthquake days, they were more goth, is that true? I'd love to hear some of it, if that is indeed the case.

I like 'em. They were purely a band for the clubs. Everytime I play Spin Me 'Round, Brand New Lover, or There Is Something In My House, the dancefloor tends to get a little packed.

I LOVE the tape "Youthquake", which found them at the top of their game. "You Spin Me Round" and "Lover Come Back to Me" oh my gosh those songs ALWAYS ROCK ME. Energetic, upbeat, & groovin' !

I've always wondered what they sounded like [i]before[/i] 'Sophisticated Boom Boom'. Were they a goth band then?

jeez, I still find myself saying "tape", LOL. I have only relatively recently been listening to CDs, so I'm kind of late in the game.

Actually, their early days (80-82) were really goth-like, with synthesizers, very very good. IMO, much better than anything they did in the mid to late 80s. They were somewhat like earlier Danse Society.
