As I get older I notice when I check out the cheapie lp bins ,lately I,ve been buying stuff I would not have looked twice at when it was new.Stuff like Huey Lewis,Loverboy,80,s Bowie and hell I,m even leaning towards the Canadian Duran Duran(platinum Blonde).Anybody else doing this?Tell us what your getting that you once thought was geeky or uncool.

It took me most of the 80's and well into the 90's before I got into The Stranglers, now I can't get enough.

I detested Echo & the Bunnymen until I dated a girl who was their no. 1 fan.

I hated The Cure until the same thing happened with a different girlfriend.

Funniest story, though, is this: I saw a mini-festival in Minneapolis in 1982 with Duran Duran, Elvis Costello, Blondie, and a few other bands. I really hated Elvis Costello at that point. He was touring on "The Imperial Bedroom" album. I completely ignored his set and waited for Blondie to come on. Well, 7 or 8 years later I finally give Elvis the chance I never had, and wouldn't you know, the last album of his that I really like is "The Imperial Bedroom". Had I paid any attention when I saw him I probably would have really enjoyed it.

Alas, hindsight is always 20/20.

I never really appreciated the Human League or Men Without Hats back in the day. I love 'em now! [8D]

The Stanglers? Echo and the Bunnymen? The Cure? Elvis Costello and the Attractions?
Man, I loved ALL of these bands before they became popular (if one was to consider The Stranglers as truly "popular" at any point in their career). I guess I was fortunate to have married my one true love back in '79, so there was no outside influences involved.

(Platinum Blonde is pretty okay... BUT I still draw the line at Huey Lewis, Lover(gack)boy and even 80's era Bowie - and i've been a fan since the early 70's)

A definate "me too" on Men Without Hats. I even remember dissing MWH in a "Men At Work or Men Without Hats" thread, but then I redisovered I Got the Message thanks to one of Fritz's Name That Tune quizzes... now I'm squarely in the converted category.

The first time I heard The Smiths, I HATED HATED HATED them. I thought to myself "What's the appeal here? This guy cannot sing at all. He's always offkey. He's got no range. And the band is so limp."
Now (since the early 90's anyway) of course I love them.

Terrance Trent D'Arby - Could not stand him then but I like his music now.

If there's one band that most everyone that knows me would assume I not only like - but even LOVE - that would be Skinny Puppy. Best I can say about them is...."eh".

LOL. I was in highschool when my big bro was insanely into The Smiths and would play their album over and over again in full volume blasting throughout the house! It had me so darn irritated I used to fight with him to play Tears for Fears instead!..then weeks after that, I became a die-hard fanatic too!

The Smiths is definitely one of those bands you would just hate when you're not used to their music.

I couldn't stand Prince & The Revolution after the 10000th play of "Purple Rain" (the single) on the radio and started liking them again when New Power Generation started up.

Avoided Echo & The Bunnymen until the late 80's. Don't know why. I was a Mighty Lemon Drops fan in '86.

Pinkees - Hated them at first, love them know.

They're the only ones that spring to mind - it's usually in the opposite direction.

Fine Young Cannibals. Hated them when they were big. I like them more now.
