Anyone else rate Public Image Ltd ? After John Lydon left the Sex Pistols and formed PIL in 1978 , the band bought out some incredible material. Totally unpredictable , they veered from Punk towards some quite ground -breaking experimental rock. A few numbers such as 'Careering ' and 'Home is Where The Heart' were a merger between New Wave and dub reggae, The 'Flowers of Romance ' album from 1981 showed some Arabic influence, 'Death Disco ' (1979) even borrowed from 'Swan Lake' , other releases just defied musical categories.
In 1986 they surprised everyone even further by bringing out 'album' which was essentially a hard rock LP with guitar solos. After that they settled into becoming more of a rock band, and lost their edge, though Lydon still has his own unique vocals and still manages to upset people in interview.
