Weirdness wasn't only a characteristic of new wave years, but also a common ground, for some very special bands/artists of the seventees which in a way influenced it(NW).These artists totally out of time,are now categorized as ''proto punk', but then were only a bunch of outlaws experimenting with primitive electronics,music hall,early power pop and cabaret-Brecht like sounds!Sparks-these early power poppers crushed with the glam rock storm and survived,Stackridge-obscure swing- music hall zaniness and Andy Davis a later member of Korgis,White Noise-adding some psychedelia to their core electronic sounds,created the perfect late sixtees synth obscuro album,Seventh Wave-space glitter at its best and titles like''Camera Obscura''-reminds you something?We could add Roxy Music,Jet,Mud,Silver apples etc.But to be weird and outsider in the years of hippy decadence and macho guitar virtuosity, was a big fact and the first step for the real revolution in music-the Punk one.Everything after that are our sweet dreams!!
