Remember those nice big LP covers that became forums for true art (Andy Warhol did an Aretha Franklin cover just before he died)? With CDs, they were shrunk, and in the last 10 years the record companies seem to have just given up.

Anyway what do you think was not the worst, but the DULLEST, plainest album cover? A waste of the medium, not even trying...

How about:

New Order, "Substance, 1987"

Pet Shop Boys, "Please"

Public Image Limited, "Album" or "Cassette" or "compact disc" depending on the medium (At the record store, some people wanted to know why we were selling blank CDs--This was in 1988 when there were no such things as blank cd's for the general public)

Maybe I'll set up a poll once there are enough good suggestions.

What about The Beatles (White Album)or U2 (Boy)[xx(]

REM make the dullest and boring album covers of all.

I actually thought PIL's generic album cover was much better than Flipper's stab at it.

Cabaret Voltaire "Red Mecca" never did much for me.

The 1982 US release of Heaven 17's self-titled album was nothing but a bunch of bright wavy lines.

Several Pet Shop Boys and New Order covers come to mind. At least Pet Shop Boys album Very was Legos Compatible.
