Most Overplayed New Wave Song?

Postby MartiniHoudini » Mon Apr 18, 2005 7:59 am

Which 5 new wave songs do you think have been played so often that you can't stand to hear it any longer?

Mine are:
1) I Melt With You - Modern English
2) Tainted Love - Soft Cell
3) Hungry Like The Wolf - Duran Duran
4) Mickey - Toni Basil
5) Don't You Want Me - Human League

Bizarre Love Triangle - New Order
You Spin Me Round - Dead Or Alive
Relax - Frankie Goes To Hollywood
Love Plus One - Haircut 100

I still love the songs though.

These songs I still hear on the radio all the time.

Romantics - What I Like About You
Police - Every Breath You Take
Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go

I agree whole heartedly with "True."

Soft Cell - Tainted Love....

hands down.

I love the song and all- cause Soft Cell was cool and all-

Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World
The Fixx - One thing Leads to another

these are played all the time on the 80s station.
That was a very, very overplayed song in its time, but the all time winner is with no doubt "Melt with You". It was--and is still being--overplayed in so many different radio station formats for twenty years. I wouldn't be surprised if I heard it on a country music station. If I never hear that song again it will be too soon.
I guess it's finally getting less airplay, but "...Science" has to be tied with "True" for all time second place, both still behind, "Melt with you."
