Alan Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac were beat poets, but I don't know if they wrote any song lyrics. I suppose you could call Dave Wakeling and Paul Collins beat lyricists. [;)]

Yeah, the s and a keys are right next to each other - easy mistake to make. I've got to give some credit to Elvis Costello. Lots of clever wordplay and nuanced expression of complex emotions. And at least in his early days he rocked too!
