Karl Jaspers writes there were four philosophers that laid the groundwork: Socrates, Jesus, Buddha, and Confuscious.

Bpdp3 writes there were four ska/2-tone debut lps that laid the groundwork: Madness 'One Step Beyond', The Specials, English Beat 'Just can't stop it', and Selecter 'Too Much Pressure'.

Which of the four would you go with?

I love all four, but at knifepoint I'd pick Specials or English Beat. At gunpoint probably the Beat.

English Beat for me.

Knife or gun, the groundwork was laid by the Specials, IMHO. A Message to You Rudy got me hooked on ska forever. Horns + snare + church organ = bliss.

Bodysnatchers

All I've ever had by the Bodysnatchers was a Two-Tone 45 of "Let's Do Rocksteady/Ruder than You".....have never seen an lp by those girls. That's one I'd absolutely grab if I came across it.

As for the Specials, will anyone admit to watching last week

English Beat. Pure dancable fun.

Gotta be the Specials for me with the English Beat being a close second. Madness in third & the Selector bringing up the rear. All fine Lps though. Anybody ever get a chance to see the movie "Dance Craze"? It was a concert film with the above 4 bands plus
