oh my goodnes,
I just found and dL'd some old Scritti Politti off soulseek and WHOA!!!!!! This, boys and girls, sounds like NOTHING like the Scritti that made it onto the radio , like "Wood Beez", "Absolute", etc. Oh no...not even close!
This stuff ([i]Unreleased Peel Sessions, Early Years[/i] is quite like punk, with angular, choppy guitars, wandering off the beat, very punk-like. It totally sounds like something off college radio back in the day! Is that Green gartside singing? very mod, dispassionate...mmm, I quite like it.

Did/do any of you know about this? care to fill me in? I wasn't a huge fan, altho I love "Hynotize" & "Wood Beez". I never knew about this early stuff!

I've always liked an early Scritti song called Skank Bloc Bologna" (for the title if nothing else.) A lot of it is pretty minimalist and abstract but in a punk way. I think they started out in 1978 or '79. Hard to believe how radically different they s

I believe one of Miles' last studio trumptet recordings (if not THE last) was on Scritti Politti's "Provision" lp. Check the liner notes for which song. I don't have it in front of me. I'm not really sure why he felt a connection with them.

swell way to describe this. I still can't believe it.

It's too bad they made the CD so short. There were quite a few other tracks from that period they left off, and very easilt could have included.
