I was recently thinking about how often when a band member decides to go solo and leave the band behind, he or she often falls flat on their face. Usually the singer (or other band member) goes solo for a less than admirable purpose: they can't stand sharing the spotlight and in a sudden overwhelming pique of narcissism, they storm off to record as a one man band. Or, occasionally, the band's evolution has run it's course and the member wishes to traverse new musical territories. Or, most unfortunately, they are chucked out unceremoniously by their bandmates.

I was wondering which solo efforts you New Wave Outposters deem the worst offerings from otherwise inspired or talented people in a band? Which album recorded by a new wave-party-of-one makes you cringe? Which makes you scream; "Swallow your pride and return to your band!!!"?

I wouldn't say Fergal Sharkey's solo career was totally unsuccessful, he did have a number one hit with "A Good Heartbeat" and "You Little Thief" reached number 5.

I agree with you Frank_Chickens, that he sold some singles and albums, but that don't mean that i like the stuff. I actually bought A Good Heart on 12" and liked it then.
But if you compare his solo stuff with The Undertones, I think sucks.

I do agree on David Lee Roth. It seems 99% of his solo career was consisting of just him goofing off in music videos, with no focus on

It's a shame that David Lee Roth became a novelty act - but not suprising. He certainly worked hard at it.

Sal Solo from Classix Nouveaux became a very well-respected Youth Minister in the Catholic Church. He continue(s/d) to make records of Christian music. I haven't heard any of it so I can't comment on the music, but he seems to be held in high regard.

I like Sal Solo's Heart & Soul single but haven't gone out of the way to hear anything else he's released.

Never liked Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Paul Rutherford as a solo artist and Holly Johnson was decent.
