Your New Wave Epiphany?

Postby savethewave » Thu May 26, 2005 10:52 am

I'd love to hear about the moment you found out about new wave, and how you felt at that moment.

What were you listening to before?

Were you thrilled, that finally here was music that spoke to you in a way no other had before?

What exactly was your New Wave Epiphany?

I remember listening to the music on lir for a while. But my story is when I'm driving home from a Long Island club in my friends cooshine mobile. A white 76 monte carlo with all the bells and whistles. He is wearing his members only jacket and blasting s

I probably couldn't give an "exact moment". But, I did spend hours in my sister's room (probably to her irritation) listening to all of her Blondie, Cars, Stooges, and Clash albums when I was really little.

Like edisonoside, I was watching Saturday Night Live, but it wasn't Bowie, it was Elvis Costello & the Attractions that practically blew the back of my head off. I'd never seen any act that looked or sounded like them before. [:0]

I realized new wave one-hit-wonders released more than one song, and it was good.

I responded to the original thread, but I'll go into more detail here.

I was staying at a friend's house and we were watching SNL one night in 1979. I saw The B-52's perform and it floored me! I had never seen anything like that before. My world had be

I saw Blondie on The Midnight Special and I had to hear more. I got Parallel Lines for my 16th birthday and wore it out fairly fast. I started to read whatever I could about the band, and that introduced me to tons other groups. No more pop, no more d

Blondie on SNL or possibly Solid Gold in around '79 or '80 was THE FIRST NW I ever saw or heard. I was impressed, but as I responded to the other post, later it was the Psychedelic Furs "Love My Way" that totally helped me cross the musical Rubicon. I was
