Not necessarily your *favorite* song, but the song that most exemplifies the music you like.

If you could boil your musical taste down to one song, what would it be?

I mean the song that you could say to a stranger "I like stuff like this..." and they'd have an accurate representation of your musical taste.

I'll start it off - "Telecommunication" by A Flock Of Seagulls.

P.S. Close second - "Dreaming Of Me" by Depeche Mode.

Transmission - heavy, beaty, hooky, crunchy, serious but fun.

"Ahead"- by Wire. It represents the heavy percussion and great mix of synths and guitars that I really enjoy the best.

I'll go with "Up the Down Escalator" by Chameleons.

Tricky question. Ummm, I'll pick:

"Nicotine Stains" by Siouxsie and the Bashees. Abrasive but catchy post-punk.

"Get the balance right" - Depeche mode.

I'd normally use The Clash but I'm really into the new B/R disc at the moment so I'll throw some love their way...I'm also reading Greg Graffin's doctoral thesis right now, so it all sorta flows...

Okay, then I'll go for Radio Clash.

Fade To Grey by Visage. Not my favorite song by them (or anyone else) but it's got the synth-heavy sound I dig, has no shred of techno/disco (to my ears anyway) and lyrics that could be construed as either really deep and meaningful, or silly and light.

"Party Fears Two" or "Club Country" by the Associates.

Here are my 3 perfect songs:

Wow. This one had me thinking last night. I don't think there IS one song that would typify what I like best as I like a lot of things best[8D] First song that came to mind, though, was "More Than This" by Roxy Music. It has that late 70s/early 80s Soft Rock sound mixed in with synths; very nostalgic, very classy and smooth, and still manages to capture a bit of the New Romantic stuff that was prevalent at the time, 1982. Man. 1982. Has anyone found a time machine yet? I'd love to go back then[:)] But as soon as "More Than This" came to mind, so did "Diamond Girl" by Seals & Crofts, "Deacon Blues" by Steely Dan, and "Can't Do A Thing (To Stop Me)" by Chris Isaak. If I was to New Wavefy that sound it would be in Freur's "Doot Doot" and The Smiths' "Oscillate Wildly"[:)]

"The Picture" by Hubert Kah. Glittering synths, tight production, androgenous, euro-centric vocals and - hey! - a guitar solo at the bridge.
