Nope, not a poll. Just post your favourite New Wave cover and, if so inclined, what makes it your favourite. I'll start:

"Only You'--Flying Pickets (Yazoo's original)--It's a great NW acapella rendition of an equally great Yazoo track.

The Housemartins' version of the Isley/Jasper/Isley track "Caravan Of Love"--Although talented already, the Housemartins really show their greatness on this one.

and as a third favourite, "Tears Of A Clown" from The English Beat--never thought a Smokey Robinson/Mowtown single could be given a Ska flavor but, IT WORKS!!!!

I couldn't remember, so I checked my NW top 100 and found out it was Devo's "Workin' In Coalmine" (never heard the original). There's no explanation needed for Devo, right?

I loved the cover of Joe Jackson's "I'm the Man." I'd spend hours listening to the album and looking at all the cr@p in his raincoat. Almost everytime I looked at that photo I'd find see something new. I also loved the cheesy expression on Jackson's face. He captured that sleasy street hawker character perfectly.

I love Rachel Sweet's version of the Damned's "New Rose."
I also like the Strangler's - 96 Tears, Inmate's Dirty Water, and Joan Jett's cover of "Shout" (The "throw my hands up....take my pants off" line makes me laugh.

Covers of New Wave songs by newer artists...ehhhhh haven't heard anything I like yet.

And I don't want to talk of beautiful songs ruined by crappy "artists" like Joy division's "Love will tear us apart" covered by Paul Young!
