I,ve heard many early U.S punk lp,s and most are great,but the one I still love the best is Fear-The record.How about you outposters you got a favorite early U.S punk lp?Or do you dislike this era and type of music?

I couldn't possibly name just one, this is probably my favorite style of music. A few of my faves are:
Black Flag "Jealous Again"
Circle Jerks "Group Sex"
Shattered Faith "Bootleg" (OK, it's new, but it was all recorded before 82)
Adolescents s/t
Black Market Baby "Senseless Offerings"
Toxic Reasons "Bullets For You"
on & on & on..........

The Ramones first album is in a class by itself.

I also liked The Dead Boys - Loud and Snotty
and The first Suicidal Tendencies album.

Yup, The Ramones self-titled is so in a class by itself, you almost can't have this conversation until you accept that first.

Then I'd say Dead Kennedy's "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" - wow! It and X's "Los Angeles" that same year fueled the whole punk scene out west. Black Flag's "Damaged" is seminal as well. All four aforementioned are in my top albums list.

I don't know if the east coast caught this later wave as much. My brother-in-law's more east-coast oriented record collection would indicate the Tuff Darts, The Runaways, Dead Boys, Television etc had already been there and done that but not quite in as classic a high-speed pure punk manner as X, DKs, etc.

Ya can't have this discussion without the Ramones, of course...but you also can't have it without Patti Smith and the New York Dolls...

'Piss Factory' came out in 1974 for Jeebus sake and The Dolls were already solo...David Johansen, Syl Sylvain, Johnny Thunders, by 1975...

but through it all, give me Iggy and the Stooges 'Raw Power' anytime...too early for punk? Nah...

Black Flag - Damaged

Not So Quiet On The Western Front - Northern CA HC/punk compilation- not a proper album but a beautiful and raw piece of US punk history.

Negative Approach - Tied Down

Reagan Youth - Youth Anthems

Agnostic Front - Victim in Pain

Flex Your head - another regional documentation of early HC/punk, in this case the DC area scene.

Crucifix - Dehumanized


I could go on for paragraphs, but these are the ones that come to me immediately.

No question about that Waukena. But Patti, the Doll's, etc were a lot more than punk though. They and the Stooges, Modern Lovers, etc heralded in the whole new wave era. I bin them somewhat differently than the whole Chuck Berry-on-speed-with-Tourettes classic punk thing.

I'm 44 and have been around forever, so early to me is 1975-76
