C'mon, Life is just a Fantasy... right???? Saw him open for Ratt way back in 1984. He was really good live. A tiny guy, but he could rock.
I hear that he now writes for Celine Dion. I quess the $$$ is good, but Celine is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO f#@$*g lame.

Yeah, I have the album with Fantasy on it...He has on serious mullet. Looks like a character out of Wayne's World. But that's a Quebecer for you...

Didn't he also start Bon Jovi's career? I think he co-wrote "(Little) Runaway."

Now did he rip off the riff from Jefferson Starship's "Jane" for "Fantasy" or was it the other way around? I can't remember.

Growing up in Backwater, Canada, we were fed a steady diet of Aldo Nova, Rush, etc. on the one radio station that didn't play Country.

Falls into the category of "used to make me cringe" but 20 years later I love it!

Celine Dion... Clay Aiken... Well, I guess a #1 is a #1, eh?

I always figured he must have done something to burn bridges at Portrait, because they really went out of their way to sink his career after the first album (which went Top 10 and platinum).

I have an album called "Plastic Bertrands' Greatest Hits". I'm guessing it was all re-recorded in Canada as the bass player on all the tracks was one Aldo Nova.

If I wrote a song and Celine Dion wanted to record it, I'd tattoo it onto my back if she wanted me to.

I liked Fantasy. I'll have to give it a listen again.

I heard the guys in Elton Motello did all the music on the first Bertrand album. Supposedly that's why Jet Boy Jet Girl sounds so similar to Ce Plane Pour Moi. Guess they didn't stay around for any subsequent albums.

I was still a DJ when Aldo Nova's album first arrived at the radio station I worked for. I never cared much for the album then and I still don't now. But I'll never forget that my small rinky-dink station in Southern Maine received something like five copies of the album so we could give them away to listeners. It encouraged us to play it. If we got five copies I wonder how many copies the larger stations got.

Heheh - and I just added Aldo Nova's "Fantasy" to my station's playlist for this week - how appropriate. Oh yeah, I dig Aldo Nova. In fact I think "Subjects" is a great listen with nary a throwaway song on it. "Monkey On Your Back" - what a great tune. Hmmm, now I gotta dig it out and give it a listen again. Rock!

Just what I was going to say...."Monkey On Your Back" is excellent. I hope they reissue "Subjects" like they did his first album.

So "Aldo Nova" is his given name or his band's name? I wouldn't put it past a Canadian to name his kid Aldo. A full 40 percent of the Canadians I know are named Gord.

Apart from 'Fantasy', he had a second hit called 'Foolin Yourself' which was a BIG hit in Canada and even became a minor hit in America.

He also co-wrote the 1986 song 'Don't You Want My Love' which appeared as a track for Canadian italo disco artist Chantal Condor on her 1986 self-titled debut album. It also became a BIG club hit for Nicole (as heard on the 'Ruthless People' soundtrack) [:)]

The truth is: Plastic Bertrand used Elton Motello's backing tracks for some of his songs on his first album ("An 1"). Those songs were: "Ca Plane Pour Moi", "Pogo Pogo", "5,4,3,2,1" and "Sha La La La Lee".
Elton Motello's original version of "Ca Plane Pour Moi" is called "Jet Boy Jet Girl". Alan Ward (a k a Elton Motello) wrote the original English lyrics of that song.
He also wrote the original lyrics of "Get The Guy" ("5,4,3,2,1") and "Pogo Pogo". "Sha La La La Lee" is originally a Small Faces song.
Plastic Bertrand recorded it in French.
The real singer on the first three Plastic Bertrand albums is Lou De Pryck, and not Roger Jouret (a k a Plastic Bertrand) himself.

Ca Plane Pour Moi!

I don't think you could go to a rock concert in the early 80's that didn't feature Aldo Nova as the opening act. I saw him twice without even trying. His sets were just ok, but Fantasy was (and still is) a rockin tune!
