The opposite of the other thread. I'll have to do some serious thinking 'cause I think I still like most of the music I liked back then...

I'd probably say Nine Inch Nails. I really liked NIN way into the mid-90s and suddenly my interest waned to the point of not spinning his album for years[B)]

I used to like Dead Or Alive, but they've gone looking like side-show Cher-clone freaks, churning out zillion-plus remakes of "You Spin Me Round."

I was sometimes accused of musical snobbery in the '80s because as soon as a band had a top 10 hit (in the states) I would stop listening to them. Cases in point:
INXS--circa Kick
REM--Circa Document
U2--Circa Rattle and Hum

Years later I still don't like the above's latter day stuff as much as their early output.. Although I've several REM and U2 albums from the '90

But do you still listen to the band? I mean, did you really like these bands a lot back then and now you'd be embarrassed to admit you liked them[:I] It's harder to think about those instances and one'd probably not name a NW band, but I thought it was worth a shot.

Billy Idol! I liked him then, but can't stand now. He lost that British punk cool image and sound. Now he's so California Bad boy rocker. (yawn).

I initially liked REM when I first heard them, but quickly realized that they weren't really my cup of joe. Also liked the Cure a lot as well, but now am just ambivalent about them. I really liked 10,000 Maniacs album "Wishing Chair" when it was released and looked forward to getting really into them - which never happened. I quickly grew to strongly dislike them.

Good point. I still listen to U2, et al. I just don't like their later stuff as much. I'd agree with edisonoside that I'd be hard pressed to say I like Billy Idol today. I guess Fine Young Cannibals would fit too. at the time I thought their first album was great. today I instantly seitch channels when I hear them on the radio.

And [i]Rattle and Hum[/i] ruined it for me. I loved U2 up until that point. Now, I do like a few songs by them here and there, but for the most part, I don't know their recent discography very well.

I'm not sure if it fits what you were asking, but although I still like the early REM and U2 stuff, as the years went on I liked the stuff they were coming out with less and less (the same goes for Madonna).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you (XXX) were asking what specific music we no longer like?

Yeah, my U-2 and REM discs are layered under several strata of other bands, and I haven't missed them or felt the need to import them to iTunes. I lost it with "Unforgettable Fire" when they got all righteous and $hit.

"I thought U-2 was a type of submarine."

That describes what happened to me, exactly.

I'm with you on U2, INXS, and Dead or Alive. I loved them then but I hate them now.

I liked the Police a lot during 78-81 but then they got so overplayed I lost interest in them.

And Elvis Costello. A lot people think he's grown as a musician but I can't even get into to his old stuff anymore.

Ditto on all the Depeche Mode, U2, REM, INXS stuff. I don't know any Cure song past Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me.

Kate Bush slid when she did "The Sensual World," though "The Red Shoes" was better -- but nothing like "The Dreaming" or "The Hounds of Love."

I have to agree with design_femme on U2. And even though I know I will get flamed here-- Duran Duran. I loved them in the 80s. now i think they really ony put out 4 decent tunes:

Girls on Film
Planet Earth
Late Bar
Say a Prayer

I can't listen to the rest of their music without cringing. Sorry.
