New Wave Outpost Forum

Since we are just days away from the all American holiday (4th of July) it gets me thinking what is the best all American New Wave City? The Criteria is based on what city had the coolist bands, the best and most number of cool New Wave Clubs, and the coolist full time new wave radio station (college radio does not count). All this had to have been happening in America between 1978-1984


Here is my top 3

1. New York City
2. San Francisco bay area
3. Los Angeles and greater southland

I can't argue with that list Quite Life.

I have heard that Akron Ohio was pretty great too.

I'm an LA guy who's gonna pick NYC after having seen some of its new wave history.

For a city that does not make the top three, but for its size and location (middle of the mountain west) had a farily large NW scene in the '80s: Salt Lake City. Yes, THAT SLC--the one with the LDS temple and

I'd delete LA and add Boston.

Boston had such a large number of new wave bands coming out, from The Cars (the grandfathers of New Wave, as we used to referred to them) to Mission of Burma, til tuesday, Human

Look, I’m putting LA behind NYC…but ONLY NYC. SF seemed like a great scene but the combination of bands, clubs, and radio stations pales to LA...and ditto for Boston as well. While the club scene may have been weaker than NYC, there still were some greats

I'm going with New York. Definitely the epicenter of all the best New Wave/No Wave/Punk/Post Punk bands in my opinion.
