THE GREATEST SONG OF THE 80s! (IMO)

Anyone remember Industry?

They registered one minor hit with 'State of the Nation' which peaked at #81 on the Billboard charts in 1983. It remains my favourite song of all time!

They released a self-titled EP in 1983 (which features the exact same artwork as the 'State of the Nation' sleeve) and a full-length album called 'Stranger to Stranger' in 1984. Apart from another excellent song called 'Romantic Dreams', another favourite of mine, they never really made much more of an impact

Another CFNY Classic and also one of my top songs.
would be a great track to add to the Retro:Active cd series.

I wrote their entries on the All-Music Guide. "State of the Nation" was among the most popular New Wave tunes in the Philippines during the '80s although not as huge as Seona Dancing's "More to Lose." I got two of their videos onto VH1 Classic, the latter ("Still of the Night") getting my name read over the air in its debut [:I]

I frickin' LOVE "State of the Nation". It's definately in my Top List. And if I forgot to put it in my officail Top 100 as per Freewave, well, then I suck.

I agree-a great song. The dance mix sounds like someone mixed the beat of New Order's Blue Monday over the song. If y'all get a chance to listen to lyrics you may agree that it's a pretty timely song even today.

I love that song and the lyrics are good too.

I was an Army brat with a real military-minded family (one brother in the Marines, another in the Air Force), and I always wanted to join the Navy, so I taped the video probably the week it was released to MTV. You've probably all seen it -- it was shot on a naval supercarrier.

I remember some bogus rumor that the whole band died in a plane crash. Where did [i]that[/i] come from?

I definitely included this song in my Top 100 List, just not sure at what # I happened to insert it (too difficult to rate songs/albums which are equally treasured![B)])

I loved Still of the Night.

and Stranger to Stranger in general...
and well the Turning to Light EP. That was some cool stuff...I think that was what it was called...very crude new wave sounding...it was nice.

We've covered this before and in fact a few contributed and came up with a cd that had pretty much all of the industry catalog on it. I was one of the few fortunate ones to get one. I'll share it on the hub.

i heard that sometime '84 or '85 during the band's peak. i didn't confirm it if it's true but i still believe in that till today. will somebody out there confirm it if it's true?

Outstanding song but I liked "Romantic Dreams" even better.

I've heard a cover version of State of The Nation by Countdown. Sounds good as well though i've no idea who's Countdown anyway. I have the mp3 if anyone's interested.

I've got 2 different mp3 versions of State of the Nation, one is 3:30 in length (@ 192 kbps) and the other is 4:28 in length. I'm guessing the 3:30 version is a radio edit single version? I cant find any info on the web about it, and searching for images is near impossible -- through google I found this thread (even though I'm on the forum plenty) and must thank whistledog for posting the images.
