I think the best was Gino Vannelli. Black Cars is a gem!

Another good one was Barry Manilow. I really liked the song 'Some Kind of Friend'

and also Stephanie Mills. The 1985 Fletch theme 'Bit By Bit' was one hell of an awesome song! [:)]

You know, the NWO is an amazingly cordial site. How polite is this place that you've now mentioned Gino Vanelli (several times!), Barry Manilow, and Stephanie Mills and we still haven't sent a posse to draw and quarter you to send your parts to the far reaches of the globe as a stern warning to all such infidels?! But you really are starting to step over the bounds of common new wave decency. [:D]

Okay to the point then...there was a similar thread but it's a great topic IMHO. Mine has to be Alice Cooper's "Clones (We're All)"...distinctly new wave whereas I could argue that your examples are just mainstream pop with some synths thrown in. You'll note at least one Gino Vanelli mention in the thread below [V]

Are we talking crossing over to the new wave? It would have to be Robert Palmer's [i]Clues[/i] (1980) (with Palmer/Gary Numan composition "I Dream Of Wires") followed by Marianne Faithfull's [i]Broken English[/i] (1979) and King Crimson's [i]Discipline[/i] (1981).
Heck, let's throw in Ellen Foley's [i]Spirit Of St. Louis[/i] since The Clash are all over that record.
