Remember the extremely fun album by the Monks, Bad Habits? I seem to recall "Drugs In My Pocket" getting more airplay up here in the Great White North than the singles like "Johnny B Rotten" and man, I confess that I do love that song. I had it on a K-Tel compilation album before buying Bad Habits.

I had all but forgotten about their follow up album, Suspended Animation, which I understand was only released in Canada for some bizarre reason. The other night I stumbled on a cool track from this second album called "Cool Way To Live" at

'Drugs in My Pocket' was a great song! I never knew this, but apparently it was a bigger success here in Canada than it was in the UK where the Monks hailed from. Always thought that was rather bizarre.

I am a big collector of Canadian K-Tel and I am curious which K-Tel album it was you had?

Didnt the Monks do the song : " nice legs shame about the face"?

Monks are one of my favourite post punk power pop bands.I love both of their albums,which are full of wonderful songs,excellent punky singing,great satiric vision and eccentric album covers.The most bizzare about them is that the two main members of Monks(Richard Hudson and John Ford)were playing in the progressive band of Strawbs!They had also some good albums in a pop-rock late seventees style asHudson-Ford.

I assume this isn't the same Monks who were American GIs stationed in Germany and did "Black Monk Time"?

Yes, different from the Black Monk Time group. English punk group. They DID do Nice Legs, shame about the face. I have the Bad Habits lp. I didn't know about the Strawbs connection, firefall - very interesting!!

It was "Full Tilt" - I had (have at my parents' house) quite a lot of these from the late 70's to maybe around 1981 or so.

"Bad Habits" is one of those great Lps that I never knew about until a few years ago. I was in a record store & picked it up on a whim. Great stuff indeed. Never knew much about the band or that they had a second LP out. Anybody willing to burn me a CDR of that one?

"Bad Habits" was the best 50 cents I ever spent. I had no idea who the band were before that, but, hey, a slutty, chain-smoking nun -- who can resist?!

"Johnny B. Rotten" was the standout, I thought, but I also liked the album cuts "Dear Jerry" and "Love in Stereo" a lot. The album's only flaw was being split down the middle between the mock punk stuff and the more Strawbs-ish pop. They should have picked one or the other and rolled with it.
