How about guilty pleasure singalongs??

A little different spin on just the singalong. I'm talking bad new wave or 80s, other genres, disco, anything that you might not want this crowd to catch you singing, hmmm?

For me, any Led Zeppelin will do the trick. I ain't joking woman I got to ramble!

But Springsteen's "Point Blank" came on the Pod early this morning. Holy crap, I couldn't believe I still knew every word. It's a classic tragic American love story:

Once I dreamed we were together again baby you and me
Back home in those old clubs the way we used to be
We were standin' at the bar it was hard to hear
The band was playin' loud and you were shoutin' somethin' in my ear
You pulled my jacket off and as the drummer counted four
You grabbed my hand and pulled me out on the floor
You just stood there and held me, then you started dancin' slow
And as I pulled you tighter I swore I'd never let you go

Well I saw you last night down on the avenue
Your face was in the shadows but I knew that it was you
You were standin' in the doorway out of the rain
You didn't answer when I called out your name
You just turned, and then you looked away like just another stranger waitin' to get blown away, Point Blank

Well since I have 2 kids under 5 I can probably own up to having sung along to Sesame Street and Laurie Berkner Tunes[:I]
My d/d already has taken to cutting me (and Mrs 2Nu) off no later than the first uttered word. [B)]

Aside from that I've indulged at some abismally lame renditions of the following:
'Close to You' - The Carpenters
'F Dat' - Sagat
'Just Another Dream' - Cathy Dennis
'Questionaire' - Chaz Jankel
'Rhythm of The Night' - Corona

I also posted awhile ago about my soft spot for Bubble Gum tunes.
'Sugar Sugar' - The Archies
'Good Morning Starshine' - Oliver

Ha, ha, I've been known to play a stripped down, acoustic version of Springsteen's I'm On Fire. For a while I was also playing America's Horse With No Name on the six string. But don't worry, I still have my Ghost In You, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, I Wanna Live etc. standards! Good topic Blir, it'll be sure to get some laughs [;)]

For me, it's late 80's /early 90's hit rap songs. I can rap right along with Baby Got Back, The Humpty Dance, Tennessee, Jump Around etc. Really though, I'm not even embarrassed to admit that.

Usually old country songs for me, Hank Williams, Wildwood Flower, etc - anything that suits my crappy singing voice. Don't tell anyone though.

"Morning Train" by Sheena Easton. I have it on one of those cheap-o "Hits Of The 80's" CD's and I was sitting in NYC traffic singing along and bopping my head until I realised that everyone on the sidewalk was craning their necks to see who was blasting this tune.

My God, Sheena Easton was super fine too.

I absolutely can not stop myself from singing Peter Cetera's Glory of Love. Funny thing is, I once threw this song on a CD I gave to a friend for laughs, and he loves it now, and once in his car we were at a stoplight singing the hell outta this song. It's like it's so ludicrous you don't even care.

I also have to stop myself from singing Air Supply and The Carpenters often.

Ha, ha, yeah all that stuff! Barry Manilow, Johnny Mathis, Engelbert Huperdink.....seriously though, these are some talented vocalists even if you just want to analyze their technical prowess.

One of my guilty pleasure sing alongs:

Different Drum
Stone Ponys (Linda Ronstadt)

You and I travel to the beat of a different drum
Oh can't you tell by the way I run
Every time you make eyes at me
Wo-oh

You cry and moan and say it will work out
But honey child I've got my doubts
You can't see the forest for the trees

Oh don't get me wrong
It's not that I knock it
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me

Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty
All I'm saying is I'm not ready
For any person place or thing
To try and pull the reins in on me

So good-bye I'll be leaving
I see no sense in this crying and grieving
We'll both live a lot longer
If you live without me

Oh don't get me wrong
It's not that I knock it
It's just that I am not in the market
For a boy who wants to love only me

Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty
All I'm saying is I'm not ready
For any person place or thing
To try and pull the reins in on me

So good-bye I'll be leaving
I see no sense in this crying and grieving
We'll both live a lot longer
If you live without me

No shame there. Great Michael Nesmith song (of the Monkees). He did it himself too and The Lemonheads did a decent cover.

Speaking of Monkees, I want to sing along to "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You". [:)]

Ugh, I cannot STAND that dang song. I don't think I'm doing myself any favors by knowing all the words, too. It's like a bad dream.

I found myself singing along to Caribbean Queen on the way home from work. I embarrassed myself, though nobody was around.

Also, just to piss my fiend off, I'll sing a really lispy version of Puttin' On The Ritz--she goes into fits of uncontrollable anger, but it's sooo worth it.

14 posts and no one has mentioned Bohemian Rhapsody?!?

No one wants to be seen singing this song, especially since no one can do it well. But everyone sings along. Confess, I say!

Everybody now!

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
A little high, little low
Anyway the wind blows, doesn't really matter to me, to me

Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger, now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooo
Didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters

Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody - I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooo - (anyway the wind blows)
I don't want to die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouch, scaramouch will you do the fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning - very very frightening me
Gallileo, Gallileo,
Gallileo, Gallileo,
Gallileo Figaro - magnifico

But I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come easy go - will you let me go
Bismillah! No - we will not let you go - let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go - let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go - let me go
Will not let you go - let me go (never)
Never let you go - let me go
Never let me go - ooo
No, no, no, no, no, no, no -
Oh mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me
for me
for me

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh baby - can't do this to me baby
Just gotta get out - just gotta get right outta here

Ooh yeah, ooh yeah
Nothing really matters
Anyone can see
Nothing really matters - nothing really matters to me

Anyway the wind blows...
