The 1980s saw a big Garage revival movement. Bands such as the Chesterfield Kings, the Fuzztones, and the Mosquitos covered songs that were appearing on many compilations, notable Pebbles that were mining lost "hits" from the '60s. The process was started by Lenny Kaye, guitarist for Patty Smith, when he released the double LP, entitled "Nuggets". Much interest was generated in these '60s songs that had a raw, low budget sound. They might have been minor hits or popular regional songs, but they were generally unknown to much of the listinging public. Many of these Garage rock songs included organ tracks, using Farfisa or Vox organs. This helped to sustain interest in the genre, since keyboards were back in style in '80s pop, most notibly in New Wave. If you are a fan of New Wave, you may enjoy listening to Garage, from the '60s, the '80s or even today. There was a huge Garage scene here in Minneapolis in the 80's. The Hypstrz were the first of the revival bands, starting in 1976 from the ashes of the rockabilly band King Custom and the Cruisers. The hypstrz morphed into the Mighty Mofos who are still going strong today (and a band that is guaranteed to kick your ass at any given moment!).

Other bands were Teh Funseekers, Safety Last, The Pseudonymphs (kind of an early Muffs), The Spectres (who backed up Deniz Tek of Radio Birdman fame at a blazing show at the Uptown Bar) and a bunch more that I can't think of right now. Lots of crossover between the bar punk/garage/noise scene thanks to labels like Treehouse and Amphetamine Reptile.

The hypstrz the Mighty Mofos and of course suicide commandos are my best and fave bands from the éarly mineapolis scene

and off cours im' loving too the suburbs

i have the hyptrzr and the mighty mofos Lp's since some years

Do you have the singles? The Hypstrz had a 4 song 7" ep and the Mofos had a 3 song 7" pressed on both blue and yellow vinyl.

BTW: The Batson brothers, Billy and Ernie, are very good friends of mine, and I used to roadie for the Mofos in 1987. I was under age to get into bars, but they let me in as one of the band just so I could see the shows.
