I'M SUPRISED TO SEE NO MENTION OF THE IRISH POWERPOP SCENE 1978-1981. MANY GREAT BANDS THAT DESERVE TO MENTIONED HERE!!THE MOONDOGS---SOME GREAT SINGLES AND AN LP FROM '81 PROTEX--ONE OF MY FAVOTRITES!! SEVERAL GREAT SINGLES THAT ARE ALL ON AN LP NOW IF YOU CAN FIND IT. THE OUTCASTS- A CLASSIC LP FROM '79 " SELF CONSCIOUS OVER YOU " IS A PUNK/POP CLASSIC!! XDREAMYSTS-- SOME GREAT SINGLES AND AN LP FROM 1980--TEARJERKERS--COUPLE OF SINGLES AND AN UNRELEASED LP FOM 1980 THAT WILL BE RELEASED ON A CD SOMETIME THIS YEAR--EXCELLENT STUFF!!--RUDI--FIND THE CD. BUNCH OF SINGLES OF MOD REVIVAL/POWERPOP STUFF--THE SWEAT( SOMETOMES KNOWN AS NO SWEAT)--RELEASED A EXTREMELY RARE LP IN 1980(CLIVE CULBERTSON ON VOCALS)-LIKE THE JAGS,ANY TROUBLE ETC-AND LETS NOT FORGET STIFF LITTLE FINGERS!!! ONE OF THE GREAT ,ORIGINAL PUNK BANDS EVER!! OHH, BY THE WAY, IT MAY SOUND LIKE I'M FROM BELFAST OR DUBLIN, BUT I'M REALLY FROM NY!!!!! THE LADS KNOW HOW TO GET IT DONE!! CHECK OUT THESE GREAT BANDS!!!!

All great bands, but many of the bands have been labelled 'punk' for years, rather than power pop! Wish Protex, Xdreamysts and the early Moondogs stuff would make it on CD. I've got the Rudi compilation and radio sessions CDs. Would love to hear The Sweat/No Sweat. Never heard OF them.

Also, Starjets, the Undertones and pretty much everything on the Good Vibrations label (including some of the bands listed above)!

I've got a Rudi comp (I think its a bootleg) on vinyl and I like it a whole bunch.

I had a later Outcasts LP (Blood and Thunder? something that had "Thunder" in the title) but traded it off for something else.

The first 3 SLF records are a must-have for any good record collection: Inflammable Material, Nobody's Heros, and Hanx!.

I have a friend who was at the show where Hanx! was recorded.

There was also the Radiators from Space in a more punk-pub rock vein.Their first album''tv tube heart''is a classic and their second''ghostown'',produced by Tony Visconti,predates the sound of Pogues through its traditional Irish elements mixing with new wave.Their leader Phil Chevron played later with Pogues.The cd by Rudi,is excellent and if anyone interested there is also a reissue from the great lost band of early 70s the Jook.Jook gave name to Rudi, after Jook's single''ooo rudi''and its a terrific proto-punk, mod band with only one ep in Chiswick and four singles.Check out their cd''Different class''also from Cherry Red.Great topic Ollie!

HERE ARE A COUPLE MORE i FRGOT ABOUT--THE SINGLES--THE SINGLE "TV DECIEVES " IS A CLASSIC--NOW THEY HAVE AN LP WITH THE REST OF THEIR LOST RECORDINGS FROM '81--A MUST!!!! AND THE BLADES--'HOT FOR YOU" AND GHOST OF A CHANCE " ARE ALSO CLASSIC TRACKS--THEY HAVE A COUPLE OF LP'S ALSO(PAUL CLEARY ON VOCALS)--

Does'nt the skids fall into this categorie too?

Skids were Scottish,and played a more heavy punk rock with metal and hard rock influences.They were great,and ''scared to dance''an exciting album!

One of the best irish band various artists compilation of this era is Belfast rock on ripp off records with great band of pub Punk and power pop bands like Pretty boyd floyd ant the gems , the sweat , blue stem and some others

the singer of Pretty boyd floyd ant the gems created after the split of this first band in 85 a great band who mixed heavy metal with Punk called Rogue Male
