Title says it all. Which bands were rivals at the time or openly talked trash about other bands?

New Order to this day is still miffed about selective pilfering of a few of their songs by The Cure.

Morrissey loved talking trash about Robert Smith and the Thompson Twins. Robert hated Morrissey in return.

I guess The Smiths and Echo & the Bunnymen were rivals in having their fans be in seperate camps (ie like the whole Oasis/Blur thing).

Also (not really New Wave) I guess Huey Lewis successfully sued Ray Parker Junior for pilfering the riff from "I Wanna New Drug" in his "Ghostbusters" song. [:0]

Didn't the Pistols, Clash, and Damned have a pretty good rivalry going, with each thinking they were holier than thou than the others. What retards, when Joy Division actually spanked all of them! [:D]

Of course the Jam and Clash were big rivals, noted here in the recent talk of what motivated the Clash's "phony beatlemania" line. Of course, everyone with great taste knows that the Jam's music has proven to be much more enduring with our benefit of hindsight now. [}:)]

I wonder if Pere Ubu and the Dead Boys had something going.

Someone 'hip and with-it' please explain the following to me:

Recent rock mags I've read document the feud between two current 'next wave' acts, the Bravery and the Killers. Apparently one of the most derogatory remarks made was that band members used to play in a ska group. Is that now like the ultimate put-down??

I don't remember Paul Weller slagging off Joe Strummer becuase maybe he was friendly with the Specials.

*Warlock Pinchers wrote a song called Morrissey Rides A Cockhorse. Funny as hell, but I doubt he ever even heard it.

No idea. It's not like he was in some neo-nazi skinhead band like that guy from Ace Of Base or something.

I remember hearing on WLIR that Brian Setzer from the Stray Cats and Stuart Adamson from Big County didn't like each other. in the 80's Stuart was saying that the music coming out of the USA didn't compare to the music abroad. Brian Setzer was not happy about the statement and they were back and forth for awhile.

I think its becuase he (the guy from the Bravery) had the Offspring-style braided hair and played ska just before COMPLETELY changing his style and look post- Killers. Not so much anti-ska as in pointing out that they look like copycats rather than actually being into synth pop.

Yet no one gives shit to Rancid for completely changing their look and sound from when they wer e Operation Ivy.
