Who HASN'T or HADN'T lost it ?

With all the recent discussion about NW artists who've "lost it", I was wondering which NW artists that you all think have/ had been most CONSISTENT in their output ? I guess it can be non-NW artists, too.
In other words: who DIDN'T lose it ? Whose albums did you buy KNOWING they were gonna be great albums, b/c they were so dependably GOOD ?
Perhaps artists who put out only an album or 2 or so and then disbanded at the top of their game ?

I don't like much by post-War U-2 . . . but I guess you could say they're consistent! [:D]

Sonic Youth
The Melvins
They've all had extremely long careers and haven't put out a single thing I dislike.

Do you even like "Rock The Shack"? I'm one of those weirdos who actually liked Get Ready but that song annoys me like few others.

Actually no, and in fact there's gobs of New Order album tracks that just plain suck. I'll say again that never been a super strong album band IMHO. But I've been able to get 4-5 simply amazing tracks off each album for the past 30 years!
...um, make that 25 years. I was thinking of Styx and Foreigner.

The latest New Order cd is really good. My wife is a huge New Order fan and she has been listening to it non-stop. I like it too.

Pet Shop Boys have consistently released good-to-great albums. They haven't had a dud yet.

I actually witnessed Mark E. Smith "losing it". The Fall were playing a benefit show for our radio station a few years ago and after the first song, Smith got into a fight with the band and walked off, thus putting an end to the show (and the band once again...but temporarily). I liked the "Real New Fall LP" a great deal but absolutely HATED "Sonic Nurse".

Japan made some great albums. Every one of them conveyed the evolution and perfection of their sound. Roxy Music and Steely Dan made fantastic albums from beginning to end.

Even though his later career has been a bit shaky, I still get enjoyment out of listening to every David Bowie album. The later ones arent as perfect as the first 15 years of his career but there are always a few songs I would call great, as well as a bunch of good ones on every album. Plus the albums have gotten better again in the last few years (Reality A++++).
