JoBoxers
One band you don’t see much of on the net is JoBoxers. With at least a couple of lively tunes “Boxerbeat” and “Just Got Lucky”, surely they deserve some mention. Hey, especially if Haysi Fantaysee gets discussed – “Shiny Shiny” must be the worst record I ever bought. I remember first hearing/seeing JoBoxers on a weekly video show broadcast on a PBS station out of Detroit (pre-MTV/MuchMusic days – can you imagine?).
There is a lot of discussion on this site about when New Wave ended. When the JoBoxers album finally reached us in backwater Canada, I’m sure it was late 1983. Although JoBoxers had their own sound, I remember thinking at the time the whole street urchin boots and hats thing they had going on was so gimmicky it actually took away from the music. Off the top of my head there weren’t many fresh sounding new wave bands after this.
Anyway, I’m curious. Can any of you Brits out there recall, back in the day, were JoBoxers considered hip? Or was it all just shite?
