New Wave Outpost Forum

New Wave was a general phenomenon at the end of the 70’s and at the begin of the 80’s. It took place in the whole world, but it was the most intensive on both sides of the Atlantic in the USA and UK. Talking Heads and Blondie were big in the US and Elvis Costello, Human League, Ultravox crowned British New Wave. Which New Wave culture ruled the world and who are the real New Wave representatives of the previously mentioned countries.

You're right, there were great groups in both countries. But I'll go out on a limb and say that if I made a list of my faves, there'd probably be more British bands on it. Being from the US, it's probably a case of the "grass is always greener..."

BUT, having said that, I think new wave may have been more of a US phenomenon. For example, I always think of the B52's debut as "the" new wave album (right sound, image, mindset, etc etc)
